Zetas Helping Other People Excel

Zetas Helping Other People Excel (“ZHOPE”) is an interactive, holistic, and multidimensional outreach program that was approved in 2008 as the National Service Program of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated. It is designed to enhance, cultivate, and empower participants to develop health-promoting lifestyle choices by targeting the population groups of: Women, Youth, Seniors, Men, and International Women of Color. ZHOPE aims to aid in the elimination of disparities within Black America and other underprivileged communities. Each population is supported through a holistic framework that focuses on the three life fundamentals: mind, body, and spirit.

Implemented across the United States and in select international countries, ZHOPE focuses its collective Zeta service efforts on increasing awareness and prevention to either decrease occurrences or minimize the impact of said inequalities. Zeta chapters and their affiliate groups are encouraged to collaborate with existing community organizations and resources to ensure access to      optimal quality programs that provide maximum impact for the purpose of empowering people to become active partners in improving the quality of their own lives. Zetas in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts have answered this call, supporting various national initiatives such as Prematurity Awareness and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, and continue to look for more opportunities to expand its reach across the Bay State.

March of Dimes Partnership

Since 1972, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated has enjoyed a partnership with the March of Dimes in an effort to encourage women to seek prenatal care within the first trimester of pregnancy, thereby increasing the prevention of birth defects and infant mortality. The Stork’s Nest program was developed in the Southeastern Region. As a part of this partnership, Zeta Phi Beta developed the Stork’s Nest Program, which is designed to promote prenatal care participation and healthy behaviors during the pregnancy through two components – incentives and education.

The Stork’s Nest prenatal education sessions provide information, educational materials and a variety of other resources and referrals that help clients take good care of themselves and their babies. Stork’s Nest clients “earn” points toward incentives, such as maternity or baby care items, through a variety of positive, health-promoting activities such as attending prenatal care appointments, participating in prenatal education classes, and keeping appointments for well-baby visits.

Nationwide, Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Incorporated sponsors numerous Stork’s Nest at local area hospitals and medical facilities serving a diverse population of pregnant women.

Social Action Program

Through our GET ENGAGED™ social action program, launched under the leadership of International President Mary Breaux Wright, our sisterhood has mobilized to find new ways to solve old problems that plague the communities we serve. In these uncertain times, we must take action.

  • The program was designed to address the underlying issues in our communities: drive individual and community engagement; empower citizens to get involved; and cultivate a culture of mutual respect in our communities.
  • During its inaugural year, the program impacted 17,190 community members.
  • The NAACP is our primary collaborator on criminal justice and voter education, registration, and protection efforts.
  • The American Advertising Federation, Executive Mosaic Council is a key collaborator on media diversity initiatives.
  • GET ENGAGED™ has been featured in Essence magazine

Mental Health Awareness

Our mission is to de-stigmatize mental illness, provide awareness, and to educate our communities to increase overall well-being. The vision of this program is to promote healthy communities that support open dialogue about mental health and empower individuals to seek help instead of suffering in silence.
